Uintah wins junior high all-star dual matches
Uintah Junior High School wrestlers Leena Sharp, Sadie Rhoades and Peyton Hogan have been the leaders all season long for its respective teams.
Those three were selected to be in the annual Ross Brunson Utah All-Star Duals at Utah Valley University in Orem Jan. 10.
“It was a great experience for them,” Uintah coach Jason Workman said. “We are always grateful when we get recognized for all the hard work these kids are doing. The three that went have had a great year.”
In the duals, Sharp pinned Kaelyn Alleman from Wasatch in a time of 5:09.
Rhoades outlasted Brooke Deeter from Sanderson 7-2 in the 112-pound class.
“It was good competition for Leena and Sadie,” Workman said. “Both of them were wrestling up a weight class. It was good for them to wrestle under the pressure of the allstars. They haven’t been in that situation a lot.”
Workman was not all surprised his two girl wrestlers pulled out wins.
“They are at an elite level for the girls,” he said. “They are just fun to watch. They should just keep climbing and continue to get better.”
Hogan dropped a tight 3-2 decision from Asher Millward from SOA in the 95-pound bracket.
“Peyton did pretty well,” Workman said. “He tried to rush a few things. Peyton is very talented. He is going to do really well when he gets to high school. He is on the right path to do well in high school.”
Uintah will compete in the state tournament Jan. 27-28 in Salt Lake City.
“We lost a lot of heavy hitters from last year that we sent them off to high school,” Workman said. “I feel that we are going to do well at state. I think that we are going to hang in there with a lot of the big clubs. It will still be a dogfight to see who will finish on top.”
