Uintah Basin wrestlers produced winning results during the annual Ross Brunson All-Star Duals at Utah Valley University in Orem Jan. 10.

The duals showcased the elite wrestlers in all the classifications the state has to offer.

Uintah’s Austin Richens and Gage Howard both came away with wins.

“The experience was great for Austin and Gage,” Uintah coach Phillip Keddy said. “They always want to wrestle the best guys and test themselves. I think it was a great opportunity to prove how good both are.”

Richens pinned Cash Henderson from Woods Cross at 215 pounds in a time of 1:46 at 215 pounds. The Uintah senior remained perfect on the season.

Keddy said Henderson is ranked No. 7 in the nation in his weight class.

“Austin is a pinner, so once he got him on his back, he made sure he finished the match,” Keddy said. “Austin has a good chance of breaking the all-time season school record of pins in one season. He already has 29 on the season.”

In the 285- pound match, Howard pulled out a 6-1 victory against Aidan Crawford from Dixie.

In the second period, Howard turned his opponent for a three-point near fall. In the third period, Howard scored a two-point reversal and a stall call for his five-point win.

“Gage had a great match,” Keddy said. “He controlled every position. He really worked on improving his wrestling in areas he needed to work on , even against a good opponent.”

Altamont’s Dillon Ivie and Bryant Mullins split their respective matches.

“I think the experience was great,” Altamont coach Bryson Foy said. “We want to wrestle the toughest kids in the state so our kids are confident in any situation they find themselves in.”

Ivie recorded a low-scoring 4-2 win over Tyler Vivanco from Corner Canyon at 120 pounds. Ivie is a Class 1A state champion, while Vivanco won his in Class 6A.

“Dillon wrestled really well,” Foy said. “Dillon was great defensively. He was able to score off the other kid’s shots. He wrestled well in his position.”

Ivie scored two points in the first period on a take down. Later in the match, Ivie registered two more points on a takedown to hold on for the win.

“It was a close match, but I felt like Dillon was in control all the time,” Foy said. “I felt like he was very comfortable when he wrestled. I felt like he decided where the match was wrestled. He made smart decisions throughout the match.”

In the 175-pound class, Mullins dropped an 8-3 decision to Payson’s Chandler Loveless.

“Bryant wrestled the same kid at the Tournament of Champions and was pinned by him,” Foy said. “Bryant did make some adjustments to make the match competitive. Bryant learns from matches like that. I expect him to learn from it and come back even better. He is a great student athlete.”

Duchesne’s Gatlen Farnsworth lost a heartbreaking 9-8 decision to Dax Nicoll from Canyon View at 138 pounds.

Uintah’s Chanley Green and Emmi Carri both had convincing victories during the duals in the girls contest.

Green pinned Layton’s Marlie Rigby in a time of 55 seconds. Green is perfect for the season. She just won an individual title at the Tournament of Champions.

In the 145-pound class, Carri quickly put Bear River’s Rhee Hatch on her back for a pin in 54 seconds.

Union’s Eva Davidson continues her fast start to the season with a pin over Alexia Woods from Cedar Valley at the 4:00 mark. Woods is the defending Class 5A champion.

Duchesne’s Breann Ivie stayed with Keagan Grange from Ridgeline for the first period and a half but was pinned at the 3:48 mark in one of the first matches of the evening.
