Leta Larain Carpenter

Leta Larain Carpenter entered the world with a bang on the 4th of July 1934. She enjoyed and loved that there were always fireworks on her birthday!

She left this world for her Heavenly Home on April 1, 2023. Leta was full of life and lived every day with enthusiasm. It is fitting that she left us on April Fool’s Day.

Leta was born in Vernal, Utah, to Hyrum and Nondis Greenhow. She was the youngest of six children.

Leta graduated from Uintah High School.  She married Jack Montgomery and the two of them raised two sons. Leta and Jack lived most of their married life in Colorado where Leta worked for Mountain Bell.

After Leta and Jack divorced, Leta married Shane Carpenter, and they made their home in Vernal.

Leta enjoyed doing yard work, she loved her animals, and she very much enjoyed fishing. Leta also loved her church home (Grace Baptist), but most of all she enjoyed her family and friends.

Leta held several roles in life, mother, daughter, wife, grandmother and she was known to many as “favorite auntie”.

Leta is survived by her son, Dean Montgomery, and her granddaughter, Stacey Montgomery.

Leta was preceded in death by her husband, Shane Carpenter; son, Hershel Montgomery; parents, Hyrum and Nondis Greenhow; brothers, Phillip Bert Greenhow, Claude Richard Greenhow, and Calvin Greenhow; and her sisters, Agnes Smuin, and Ethel Yourdon.

This was a woman that would light up the room when she walked in. She will be missed by many.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the special angels that work for hospice, Paige, Tiffany and Sheila. These ladies are amazing. Leta loved them and considered them family.

Funeral services will be on April 8, 2023, at Grace Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Family greeting at the church one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
