March 20, 1961 to January 18, 2023

Our beloved Douglas Lee Schmidt, unexpectedly passed away on Jan. 18, 2023, while working to support his family. He was born to Joseph and Naomi Grace Parker Schmidt on Mar. 20, 1961, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Doug served his mission in Seville, Spain, from 1980 to 1982. He married and moved to San Diego, California, where he worked as a computer engineer and raised their three kids, Ashley, Aaron and Jason. After his previous marriage, he moved to Vietnam and became an English teacher for a few years and returned to the United States.
Doug moved to Vernal, Utah, and worked for an oil and gas company. He found love again and married his Filipina wife in 2012 in the Philippines. Together they have two boys ages 7 and 5. They were sealed as a family in the Bountiful Temple last month.
Doug was the most patient, laid-back, and kindest person you would ever meet. He loved nature, fishing, flying his drone and enjoyed working on computers and electronics. He also enjoyed baking, cooking and making wheat pancakes for his little boys. He was loved and adored by his family so much and will be forever missed.
Doug is survived by his great pride and joy, his wife, Louchie Ann Ondangan Schmidt; and his children, Ashley Marie Schmidt, Aaron Michael Schmidt, Jhon Joseph Schmidt and Zachary Douglas Schmidt. He is also survived by his beloved siblings, Dean (Betty) Schmidt, Clark (Laurie) Schmidt, Lisa (Johnny) Larkins, Van (Maria) Schmidt and Barbara (Richard) Lentz.
He is preceded in death by his beloved son, Jason Scott Schmidt; his loving parents; his niece; Whitney Jensen; and his nephews, Matthew Rainey and Christopher Schmidt.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, at 12 noon, at the Vernal 5th Ward Chapel, 200 W. 250 N., Vernal. A viewing for family and friends will be on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Phillips Ashley Valley Funeral Home, 410 N. 800 W. and Saturday prior to services from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park.
