Campbell receives PACE award

Carrie Calder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Calder, Vernal, is among the twenty-seven new members who were initiated in the Brigham Young University chapter of Orchesls, national dance group, January 14 at 6:15 p.m. in the Women’s Gym. Announcement of the initiation was made this week by Shirley Ririe, director of the dance group.

Vernal’s two legislators Rep. Clair Hopkins and Sen. B. H. Stringham were this week assigned to various standing committees.

Sen. Stringham will serve on the following committees as announced by Senate President Mark Paxton: Agriculture and Irrigation, Banking and Commerce, Highways, Mining and Smelting, State and Municipal Affairs, and Appointments.

Rep. Hopkins will serve on the Corporations, Appropriations, Highways and Aeronautics, and University of Utah-Utah State Agricultural College Committees.

Jan. 17, 1963

Three members of Uintah School District Board of Education took oath of office at the meeting held in the school district office Wednesday of last week.

The two newly elected members were Ray E. Nash and Floyd Tullis. The incumbent members was Alvin Bowden. The official ceremony took place under the direction of Whitney Hammond, Uintah County Attorney.

Elder Brent B. Hacking, son of Mr. and Mrs. Grant L. Hacking, will be honored Sunday at 7 p.m., at a farewell missionary testimonial in the Maeser Ward Chapel.

Elder Hacking will enter the Salt Lake Mission Home January 21, prior to serving in the Southern States Mission.

Jan. 18, 1973

Roma Jean Wooely and Harold Richard Farnsworth were united December 29 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. George Wooley performed the double ring ceremonies.

Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Loris L. Wooley, Lapoint. Mr. and Mrs. Clayton E. Farsworth, Las Vegas are parents of the groom.

Shane Riding of Troop 234 (Gines) received the Eagle Award at the Uintah District Court of Honor held in Ashley Ward Wednesday of last week. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Riding.

Jan. 19, 1983 Jan. 11,

the American Cancer Society volunteers from the Daggett county unit attended a district conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Vernal. Those from Manila attending were Mary Steinaker, president; Peggy Briggs, crusade chairman; Carol Slaugh, public information chairman and Mari Gene Campbell, public education chairman. At the meeting the women attended workshops in their area.

At a luncheon two awards were presented. These awards are PACE (Priority Activity in Cancer Education) setter awards. These awards are national recognition for the work accomplished in their areas. Mari Gene Campbell received one of these awards. Three of these awards were given in Utah.

Each year nominating meetings are held in three of Moon Lake Electric Association’s director districts. The meeting for this year were held last week in Districts 2, 6 & 7, and 8.

In District 2 the nominee was incumbent Calvin J. Monks, Myton. In combined Districts 6 & 7 the nominee was incumbent E. W. Long. District 8 nominated incumbent Lloyd C. Nelson as their candidate.

Francis Benedicto, son of Rey and Annie Benedicto of the Philippine Islands, and Geri Lance, daughter of Darrell and Lanore Lance of Vernal have chosen Wednesday, Jan. 20 to be married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

The following Uintah Basin students have veen named to the Dean’s List at Snow College for fall quarter: Jennifer L. Walton, Vernal; Analisa Miles, Bluebell; Katy Lou Barton, Altamont; Alan C. Poulson and April L. Skewes, Duchesne.
